Quito Theaters

Quito has numerous theaters. This art form has been a tradition in Quito throughout its entire history as a city.

In Quito there are some theaters that are surprisingly beautiful. However, in spite of all that time and competition, their activity has declined.

Tickets for plays and all other shows can be bought directly at the box office of the theaters. You can also buy tickets at locations such as Supermaxi grocery stores, Musicalísimo music stores and Locuras, as well as in the businesses that are sponsoring specific shows.

The Teatro Nacional Sucre (at Flores and Manabí Streets) and the Teatro Bolívar (Espejo Street) in renovation process are the two oldest theaters in the city.

There are other theaters with a variety of programs and activities that have recently become important in Quito. El Socavón (on Francisco Compte in the Guápulo neighborhood) and the Teatro Malayerba (next to El Belén Church) are now the main theaters in the city.

In all of these theaters, ticket prices begin at $4 and increase according to the show. In the case of the Teatro Malayerba, it's important to arrive at the theater early because the theater is small and tickets quickly sell out.

Other locations that host theater activities are the Alianza Francesa, the Teatro Prometeo (in the Casa de la Cultura), and the Patio de Comedias (which is near the Santa Teresita Church).

These Quito theaters are used mostly for music concerts and plastic presentacions, also for forum, corporate meetings and other uses.
