Quito Historic hotels advice
Stay at Quito historic center hotels is a nice option to feel the complete city spirit, you can't imagine the night landscape at Quito churches, monuments and more. But as always in life, some points are very important to know, ir order to prevent any problem. The Quito historic center is safe in the morning when the local police is doing her work, if you stay at recommended areas, but at night is not a good idea to walk alone, so always walk in group and if it's possible ask your hotel about the safe areas at night. Until 8h30 or 9h00 pm is a good schedule to walk in the Quito's historic center.
Real Audiencia Hotel
the Real Audiencia Hotel offers dusty but decent rooms and discounts for Ecuadorians. Transportation can be arranged from the airport for just $3 more than the regular room rate. Make arrangements with the hotel in advance. The highlight is the top-floor restaurant and bar with large windows looking out onto the Plaza Santo Domingo. The hotel makes an effort to work with the city to protect the historic buildings in the area, of which the hotel is one
Patio Andaluz is located in the heart of the Centro Histórico in a 400+ year-old-house that was once owned by the first president of Ecuador, Juan José Flores. The hotel was renovated in December 2003 but retains its classic colonial style. The rooms are beautiful, with hardwood floors and views onto the courtyard. Play chess on handcrafted tables overlooking the courtyard, relax in the hammocks, read magazines and books in English and Spanish in the peaceful Guayasamin Lounge (named after a famous Quiteño artist), or spend your free time in the sauna and fitness room in the back.
The Hotel San Francisco is an attractive colonial building right in the middle of Quito's Centro Historico. Its tastefully decorated, spacious roms have recently been renovated. There is a quiet interior courtyard overflowing with plants and black & white photos of 19th Century Quito covering the walls. The friendly staff are always willing to help with travel advise and are on hand to answer questions from guests. The spa includes a sauna, steamroom and jacuzzi. It is modern and clean and is available for guests' use at no extra ch arge. This hotel is a great value for your money.
L'Auberge Inn Hostal (literally 'Inn Inn Inn' in French, English and Spanish) is located between the Centro Histórico and La Mariscal. Its a bit of an oasis in a fairly dumpy, trafficy area with its tranquil garden, delicious pizza parlor, and comfy lounge complete with games, a pool table and a fireplace. The rooms are basic, but clean. Most look out onto the common garden. The rooms with shared bath also share a threadbare carpet but are fine otherwise. If you make a reservation for L'Auberge at the information desk when you arrive at the airport, transportation is free to the hotel. Otherwise it is $6.
